A steam boiler or steam generator is usually a closed vessel which is made of
steel. Its functions is to transfer the heat produced by the complete
combustion of fuel (solid, liquid or gaseous) to water and ultimately to
generate steam.

The purpose of steam generation:
- For generating of electric power in the external combustion engine, i.e. steam engines and turbines.
- In the textile industries at low pressure for industrial process work in cotton mills, sugar factories, breweries etc.
- For producing the hot water, which can be used for heating installations at mush lower pressures.
